Chicago Winter Markets: One Goes North, One's New, One Returns

Updated: Oct 28

Indoor Market Scene Gains Three for 2024-25

Chicago's South Loop Farmers Market wrapped up its outdoor season on Saturday (October 26), but it has announced big plans for the indoor market season.

While maintaining the Saturday indoor market they initiated last year at the Roosevelt Collection complex in the South Loop, the market managers have revealed that they will hold a Sunday afternoon market at Water Tower Place, located on the Magnificent Mile on downtown's North Side.

The market will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the retail mall at 835 N. Michigan Ave. The indoor market begins on January 12 and runs through March 30.

The Roosevelt Collection market will be held on Saturdays at 150 W. Roosevelt Rd. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Its season is January 11 through March 29.

I'm excited about this because the Water Tower location is so convenient for me. While the Roosevelt Collection is very nice, I only visited once last winter because it's a 40 or so minute haul by bus from where we live. The Water Tower hop is about a half-hour less. So, yay to that.

Ravinia Farmers Market Also Heads Downtown — in Highland Park — for New Winter Market

Ravinia Farmers Market, a longtime fixture in the north Chicago suburb of Highland Park, is adding its own new twist with a winter market series at the Wayfarers Theaters, 1850 2nd St. in downtown Highland Park. This location is two miles north of the location of the outdoor Ravinia Farmers Market, which wraps up its season on Wednesday (October 30).

The winter series opens with special holiday markets to be held on Saturday, December 21 and Sunday, December 22.

The market will then go weekly on Saturdays, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p,m., starting January 11 and running through April 26.

And... the fledging winter market is seeking vendors. See the graphic above for details.

Logan Square Winter Market Returns, Ending a Two-Year Hiatus

Fpr many years, the winter market staged by the Logan Square Farmers Market was one of a tiny number serving Chicago local food lovers in the off-season. But after dealing with disappointing turnouts during the peak COVID years, Logan Square took a winter market hiatus over the past two years.

But the market's managers have announced that the winter market is making a comeback... and soon... opening on Saturday, November 9. The market will continue on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The location, at 2537 N. Pulaski Road, is one mile due west of the Logan Square Farmers Market's outdoor summer location. Its host is Breakfast for Dinner, which may sound like a restaurant but rather is a creative and production studio.
