Program Will Operate in Chicago's Austin Neighborhood
Common Threads is a national non-profit organization, based in Chicago, that provides food and nutrition education to mostly students, but also adults. Common Threads takes an innovative approach through both in-person and on-demand virtual cooking and nutrition education classes taught by trained chefs, while providing training on their curriculum to caregivers, educators, and healthcare professionals.
They are looking for schools or community organizations in Chicago's Austin neighborhood who would be interested in participating in free Common Threads after-school Cooking Skills and World Cuisine classes.
This 3rd-8th grade program (10 lessons, 2 hours per lesson) engages students’ tastes and minds through the exploration of the culture and cuisine of nine countries, with a culminating “student-choice” lesson. In the kitchen, young chefs learn how to follow a recipe, prepare and cook a balanced, healthy meal.
Requirements include:
Site located in Austin, an under-resourced community on Chicago's far West Side.
Access to a kitchen
1:5 adult to student ratio
Committed school contact
