Guidance from Illinois Farmers Market Association and Good Food Accelerator
I get asked now and then by farms and value-added producers about how to get established in farmers markets. I'm not involved with the operational side of markets so the best I can do is provide generic advice about markets that might be able to provide some opportunity.
So if you're a producer with farmers market goals, here's some good news. Illinois Farmers Market Association, in partnership with the non-profit Good Food Accelerator program, is launching a four-part farmers market strategy series of one-hour sessions — on Zoom from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. central — that begins November 12 (Tuesday of next week).
Here are the dates and topics for each discussion:
November 12: How to Get Started and Be Selected
November 19: Building Your Brand at the Point of Sale
December 3: Be A Good Market Vendor: Farmers Market Manager Panel
December 10: Scaling Up Your Business: How & When
According to the organizers, "Are you a current farmers market vendor looking to up your game, or a someone who wants to break into markets but isn't sure how? Our virtual Farmers Market Vendor Strategy series is for you!"
