April 5 Opener in Lincoln Park Kicks off Chicago Region's Outdoor Season

It's the most wonderful time of the year... for us local food lovers. One week from today (Saturday, April 5), the pace-setting Green City Market kicks off the Chicago region's outdoor market season.
Come to their flagship location at 1817 N. Clark St. in the city's Lincoln Park neighborhood between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to celebrate spring and help our local farmers who are navigating through a period of serious uncertainty.
You also have an opportunity to show your support for Green City Market itself. The non-profit organization is staging a campaign — scheduled to end on April 5 — to raise $20,000. The tax-deductible donations will be matched by a generous donor.
Green City has certainly earned support. Since its founding in 1999, Green City has defined the Chicago food region, greatly expanded the concept of producer-only food vendors, and laid the groundwork for the enormous growth in the Chicago
region's farmers market sector. It also helps fight food insecurity as one of the first markets to accept nutrition assistance benefits and one of very few across the nation that triples the value of those benefits.
I'll let the market folks speak for themselves.
In just seven days, Green City Market will open for the outdoor season. It’s a critical moment when our local farmers work tirelessly to generate revenue to last the whole year through. And it’s an opportunity to make sure that every visitor to the market, regardless of income or zip code has access to fresh, sustainable, and local food.
A generous donor has challenged Green City Market supporters like YOU to raise $20,000 by the opening day of our outdoor market season — and will match every gift dollar-for-dollar until we reach that goal.
We don’t want to leave a single dollar of matching funds on the table. This is a great time to make your first gift to support the market this spring season, especially because your gift will be doubled and will help us unlock the full $20,000 matching gift!
If we can unlock the full $20,000 match, we’ll start the season with the full $40,000. That’s a lot of support we can offer to both our customers using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to shop the market and to our community of farmers who receive every dollar reimbursed from our SNAP matching program, GCM For All.
But we still need to raise $18,309 before our donor’s matching offer expires on April 5.
