Two focus on Women's History Month; the other is a Chicago Chefs Cook fundraiser

Mariano's Showcases for Women-Owned Brands

March is Women's History Month, and we salute the Mariano's supermarket chain for marking the occasion with a weekly series of events showcasing women-owned businesses. These events will be held at selected Chicago-area stores running through March 22.

Each event will showcase between 10 and 14 women-owned businesses who will be sampling their products. Most of these businesses are located in the Chicago region (I have worked with several of them in my role as communications coordinator for Naturally Chicago, whose Locally Made program partners with Mariano's to provide opportunities for local brands that are better for people and the planet).

The series kicked off this past Saturday (March 1) at the Mariano's store in Skokie, Illinois. Mariano's provided photos of these rising-star businesses below.

Updating the Chefs List for Chicago Chefs Cook's March 20 "I Cook For" Fundraiser

Chicago Chefs Cook, the culinary community non-profit that holds fundraisers for humanitarian causes, is outdoing itself with its just-announced "I Cook For" benefit that will be held on the evening of Thursday, March 20 at downtown Chicago's Four Seasons Hotel.

It's not just that the chef lineup is awesome — it always is at their events — but this is a Chicago Chefs Cook event with a twist. While most of their fundraisers have benefited one or two organizations, this one will divvy up proceeds among charities selected by each of the participating chefs (there are 28 chefs listed so far).
