Season Overlap Continues at Chicago Farmers Markets

Summer Squash May Be on the Downslope

Farmers market product haul

This is just a short what's-in-season update, because not much has changed over the past few days here in the Chicago area. Most peak summer season are hanging in there well, while fall crops slowly join the party.

One thing I did notice during my visit to Chicago's Green City Market is that zucchini and other summer squash is getting a bit harder to find. The folks at the stand of big Nichols Fsrm & Orchard (Marengo, Illnois) had plenty but inevitably we zucchini fans will be missing it soon.

My market haul: eggplant from Growing Home (Chicago); zucchini, Honeycrisp apples, red bell peppers, and melons from Nichols; and sweet SunGold cherry tomatoes from Tomato Mountain (Brooklyn, Wisconsin).

I hope you're having a great local food weekend too.
