Deadline is Today to Signal Your Backing

Earlier today (April 7), I published an article about the new Organic Research Hub launched by Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF). Sorry about the late notice but following up with the Foundation's petition to express support for a key organic research bill — which must be signed by the end of today.

Without further adieu, here is the explanation from OFRF about the proposal that Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pennsylvania, is expected to soon reintroduce:

I’m reaching out to ask for your support in signing onto a new letter urging the Senate Agriculture Committee to incorporate the Organic Science and Research Investment (OSRI) Act into the next Farm Bill. With Senator Fetterman planning to reintroduce the OSRI Act in early April, now is the time to build momentum!

This legislation represents a critical investment in organic research, with key provisions to:

  • Establish the Coordinating and Expanding Organic Research Initiative, ensuring USDA better tracks and supports organic research.

  • Increase funding for the Organic Research and Extension Initiative (OREI) and provide first-time Congressional authorization for the Researching the Transition to Organic Program (RTOP) to support farmers transitioning to organic production.

  • Double Farm Bill funding for the Organic Production and Market Data Initiative (ODI) to strengthen organic market and economic research.

A strong, diverse coalition of farms, businesses, and organizations signing on will send a clear message that organic research is essential for the future of U.S. agriculture.

You can review the full text of the letter and sign on by April 7th, 2025 using this form: https://forms.gle/ZpASBifBUthQsEd47.

We greatly appreciate your continued partnership and advocacy for organic research. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, and thank you for considering this opportunity to make an impact!
