Green City Market's last indoor session is Saturday
Winter can seem endless, but it's not. Spring is here, and Green City Market is prepping to kick off the Chicago region's outdoor season two weeks from tomorrow (April 5) at its Lincoln Park flagship location.
That also means that this Saturday (March 22) is the finale for Green City's indoor market in the Avondale neighborhood.
With the change in seasons come changes in this Local Food Forum feature.
I will continue to share the winter market schedule until its conclusion.
I have added the list of four local markets that open their season in April.
I don't want the list of year-round sources for local food (brick-and-mortar & online) to get lost under the outdoor market schedule that will get big by May and ginormous by June. So I'm going to create a separate post as an ongoing feature.
As we've reported, this was a harsh winter for many local farmers, especially those who have been abruptly and unfairly hit with a freeze in contractually promised federal funding. So whenever and wherever you can, please support our farmers by buying local.
Also, please note that only some of the winter markets are held weekly; others are held on selected dates. Make sure you know before you go.
