The Long Summer Crop Season Winds Down in Living Color

The Rainbow Still Sparkles Among the Fall Leaves

All good things come to an end, and it's inevitable that this includes the Chicago region's summer crops. It would be unbecoming for us to complain, though, because it has been a truly long and bountiful season at our local farmers markets.

So long and bountiful, in fact, that I was able to capture these photographs today (October 16) at Chicago's Green City Market in Lincoln Park.

Alas, the hourglass is almost empty. My friend Steve Freeman at the Nichols Farm and Orchard stand (where these photos were taken) said that the chilly overnight temperatures may have brought down the final curtain on the summer season.

The photo of my market haul is included with the diminishing regional farmers market schedule for the next week, published separately. But to round things out, here are some more fall colors photos.
